Call to Student Organizations

On April 24 this year will be 96 years since in the territory of the Ottoman Empire was executed a state-level planned extermination of the Armenian people in its own historic native land.

After the mentioned executed plan, in 1915-23, the Armenian people lost more than 2 millions people and major part of its territories. Crimes committed against the Armenian people in 1915-23 are qualified as genocide – crime against humanity. This is proved by the legal documents, which in May 1915 were adopted by England, France and Russia. Issue of restoration of the Armenian people’s rights was also discussed at Paris Peaceful Conference in 1919. Prove of the Armenian genocide is also Protocol of Sevres of 1920.

Today Armenian Genocide has been recognized by more than 20 states and also by a great number of international organizations including Euro parliament and EC.

At the moment process of examination and recognition of the Armenian genocide takes place in some countries (e.g. the USA, Bulgaria, Spain, Israel, Serbia, etc.)

Armenian Student Association of Georgia called Georgian student organizations including student councils of institutions of higher education, in the name of commitment to justice and democratic valuables, to join the initiatives of the civilized world community and to come with official statements condemning fact of the Armenian Genocide. Armenian Student Association of Georgia also asked students and student organizations to join the event of 96th anniversary of the Armenian genocide organized by the Armenian Community of Georgia in 2011. On April 24 at 2 p.m. at the Turkish Embassy in Georgia (35 I. Chavchavadze St., Tbilisi) will be held a peaceful manifestation with demand of recognition of the Armenian genocide. Armenian Student Association of Georgia hopes Georgian students and student organizations will express solidarity and participate in the above mentioned initiative.
